How can I do market research for my wedding planning business?

I am in thinking about setting up a wedding planning business but obviously need to do some market research first. I’ve tried contacting several venues holding wedding fairs to ask if I could talk to some brides at their events but haven’t got anywhere. I have thought about catching brides coming out of bridal shops but I don’t think these shops would be very happy with this if they found out! Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi

There are so many ways to obtain the information you require, the only issue is what is your budget?

You could arrange small parties like the "Ann Summers" where everyone is relax and not in a rush to go somewhere.

Depending on your budget, you could use research companies.

I wish you all the best with your research and your business.

Kind regards

You can try and do the same thing online. Find forums, blogs, groups that talk about weddings and future brides’ issues and listen, ask, take notes.

You should also take in consideration you competition. See what they’re doing, how much they charge, what works and what doesn’t.

    Good luck!References :

Ring round a few photographers and ask them if they can introduce you to couples getting married so that you can do some direct research with them. Ask them what they need, what would make planning a wedding easier in your area (location, end-2-end planning, catering, video, flowers etc). Thats how I’d want to do it. Remember wedding planning start-up will be location specific. A forum would probably just give you generic answers which may no be exactly what you need.References :

Set up a web site for newly weds so they can say what was good and bad about their wedding. Have a section that says if you were to do it again what would you do different and whyReferences :

Once you’ve set up, get listed online at directory sites such as Yell or Yellow Pages, you’ll find that people holding wedding fairs will get in touch with you.

I agree with one of the other answers, find forums and ask folk in your area, brides are very active in forums!References :

you could use a micro niche research tool to give you some idea. You just type the keyword relating to the market and it search for the data over the net. The result is that you get info for market niches that are competitive, weak or strange, where people are spending most of the money or where most of the traffic is. Marketers that do internet marketing use it a lot.
Just a tip to consider, i hope it might help.

you can get example video of it at work @ http://www.marketnichefinder.com/marketnicheReferences : http://www.marketnichefinder.com/marketniche
